To say we are proud
of our teachers is an understatement! With many years of playing, studying and
teaching, we have a great resource for learning. Lessons are scheduled by the month
(four 30 minute lessons per month) paid directly to the teacher, and scheduling
is done by the teacher.
Lessons are available weekdays in the afternoon and evening. If you would like a teacher to call you with more information, e-mail
us at
lessons@hmusic.com, contact the
teacher directly or call us at 894-7777.
Please do not leave scheduling changes on e-mail. (The teachers may not receive
them in time.)

Theoretically,
drums should be a very intuitive instrument; if you can hear it, you can feel
it, and you can play it. The difficulty comes either when we do not understand
what we are hearing or when we encounter physical limitations to our playing.
My goals are to help students to better understand the rhythms that capture their interest and to help them develop the physical abilities to create those rhythms. Accomplishing this will require learning some rhythmic theory and notation (don’t be afraid, it is easier than you might think and extremely helpful). Technical instruction will be based on the Moeller method of drumming. This technique yields an excellent balance of power and speed while minimizing impact on the body. Learning proper technique now will accelerate your learning curve as well as guard against debilitating repetitive stress injuries in the future, so you can enjoy drumming for a lifetime.
I enjoy a wide variety of music: from Miles Davis to The Mars Volta, from the Ramones to Refused, from The Beatles to Beck, and from The Cure to Converge. In addition to drums I am also proficient on guitar, bass, piano, and ukulele. This diversity has been a valuable asset to me, as a drummer, by teaching me how drums and percussion relate to other instruments. I have also studied audio recording and music theory at the university level (UC Davis and Sierra College) and would be glad to help with any aspect of song craft or recording.
Above all, I want to help students achieve their own individual goals. I encourage students to tell me what they are interested in and what they want to accomplish and I am happy to shape my curriculum accordingly.
